Election Day in a newsroom

It’s November 6. Election Day.

For anyone who is a journalist, Election Day is sort of like Christmas, your birthday, and the day of your college exit exams combined. It’s stressful, exciting, exhausting and thrilling.

Working on Election Day is pretty exciting. And not just because there is always a ton of food (yes, lots of food). It is one of the reasons why I signed up for this gig. There is nothing like being in a newsroom on election night. You can feel it in the air – the excitement and anticipation of waiting for results and breaking the news to the public. They count on us and we have to deliver.

Had you told me at the start of this year that I would be in New York on Election Day, I probably would have thought you were nuts. But here I am. I’ll be producing on the national desk tonight at the Times. I really can’t wait to get in. It should be a fun night.

Franks, my mini dachshund

So, if you haven’t already, go vote. Make my Election Day in the newsroom busy with tracking votes across the states. Do it for my cute little dachshund Franks. Franks can’t vote, but you can. Do it for Franks.
